Napoli CEO Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed yesterday that they are open to the idea of selling Kalidou Koulibaly.
When asked about Koulibaly departing the club, De Laurentiis said:
“You’ve to ask to Manchester City, Manchester United and PSG… they’re the only clubs that have money to sign him”
As per Gazzetta Dello Sport, Napoli are looking to raise funds after heavily investing in the transfer market this year. The Italian side have spent around €180m combined to sign Diogo Demme, Stanislav Lobotka, Andrea Petagna, Matteo Politano, Amir Rrahmani and Victor Osimhen in 2020.
According to the same report, United value Koulibaly around the region of €70m.
However, De Laurentiis suggests that they are not going to get bullied by financially stronger clubs.
“I see many buzzards on the transfers market… you know who they are, they seem to be waiting to swoop in, but we have impenetrable armor and they’ll not get what they want or at the prices they want.”
As per Corriere Dello Sport, Manchester City are in strong contention for securing Koulibaly’s services too. Pep Guardiola wants to strengthen his defense as Eric Garcia refused to sign a new deal and wants a move to Barcelona. They’ve not signed a replacement for Vincent Kompany who left the club in 2019. Fernandinho, who played as a center-back for a majority of the season is 35 and cannot play every game.
PSG could sign Koulibaly too. Their club-captain Thiago Silva left the Parisian side after his contract runs out this month.
Napoli are ready to sell Koulibaly. The ball is in United’s court.
Sign him up, Ed!
