‘Clearly being sold’, ‘so disappointing’, some fans fear youngster’s Man United career is over

A section of Manchester United supporters believe Angel Gomes could be heading through the exit door after failing to make the match day squad in the recent League Cup quarter-final tie against Colchester United.

The teenager has largely featured in the Cup competitions this season but he has not made a single appearance for the club since the 2-1 Europa League defeat at Astana last month.

Gomes was recently overlooked for the European game with AZ Alkmaar despite being pictured in the lead up to the clash and the same was the case against Colchester United on Wednesday night.

His current contract situation may be regarded as a reason behind the absence but it was still surprising, considering Tahith Chong was picked for both of these games, being in a similar position.

As a result, a number of United fans are concerned over the future of United graduate and some fear that he could be heading out of Old Trafford in January with his contract expiring in just over six months’ time.

Gomes has been regarded as one of the most promising talents coming through the academy but he has not been able to break into the first-team on a regular basis under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It is unclear whether an injury has contributed to his recent absence but prior to that, the 19-year-old has not been able to grab the opportunity compared to the likes of Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams.

According to Manchester Evening News, there has been no progress in regards to the contract negotiations with the youngster, meaning that United risk the prospect of losing him on a free transfer next summer.
