Christian Eriksen unlikely to travel with Man Utd to Thailand

Christian Eriksen may not be available for Manchester United’s pre-season tour of Thailand with a medical and other formalities yet to be sorted, BBC Sport’s Simon Stone claims.

The Denmark international has verbally agreed a three-year contract with Manchester United, and he looks on course to become their second summer signing after Tyrell Malacia.

However, the deal may not be straightforward. His medical could take some time, considering he was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator last year.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are still drafting the terms of the contract, and Stone reports that Eriksen is not assured to travel with the squad for their Thai tour from July 8.

United are set to face rivals Liverpool on July 12 before travelling to Melbourne to take on Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace. Eriksen could make the trip Down Under.

Our view:

Eriksen has been convinced to join United this summer, and he should be a quality acquisition with his vast experience in the Premier League, mostly with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Dane has generally played from the number 10 role, but we may see him operate from central midfield. He was pretty successful from the position for Brentford earlier this year.

The 30-year-old managed five goal contributions from just 11 games while creating several chances for his teammates. He played a key role in the Bees staying clear of the relegation places.

Eriksen has now committed to join the Red Devils, but fans may need to wait a little longer to see him in the club’s shirt. He could possibly make his friendly debut against Victory on July 15.

Hopefully, there is more good news on the way. United are determined to sign Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez while negotiations are still ongoing with Barcelona over add-ons for Frenkie de Jong.
