Christian Eriksen must start Manchester derby after impressive cameo vs Copenhagen

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag should reinstate Christian Eriksen into the starting line-up for Sunday’s Premier League derby against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The Dane has not started for the Red Devils since September 20 and he was once again a substitute against Copenhagen with Sofyan Amrabat, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes preferred in midfield.

United struggled to gain sufficient control in the first half of the Champions League game. There were no surprises that Amrabat was subbed off at the interval with Eriksen replacing him.

The £150,000-a-week star completed 90 per cent of his passes with three successful long balls. He also delivered one cross into the box which contributed to Harry Maguire’s goal.

Eriksen grabbed his opportunity to impress the manager last night and in our opinion, he must be reinstated into the starting line-up for the Manchester derby on Sunday.

There should be another change as well with Casemiro replacing Scott McTominay.

Casemiro was given a breather for the Sheffield United game due to a twisted ankle. He was ineligible to face Copenhagen yesterday due to his sending off versus Galatasaray.

The Brazilian star should be back into the starting line-up for the derby in the place of McTominay, who has been guilty of conceding penalties in back-to-back games for United.

His blushes were spared yesterday by Andre Onana’s fantastic penalty save in the final seconds of stoppage time. We won’t be surprised if he is dropped to the bench this weekend.

United are currently on 15 points in the Premier League, five adrift of the Champions League places. Ten Hag will be expecting a victory over the Cityzens to avoid losing further ground.
