Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has the chance to redeem himself following a hamstring injury sustained by Mason Mount.
The Denmark international joined the Red Devils on a free transfer last summer and he made a brilliant start to the campaign for the club.
Eriksen registered two goals and nine assists by January before suffering an ankle injury against Reading.
He made his comeback in early April, but struggled to replicate the same level of consistency. He managed only one more assist for the season.
The £150,000-a-week star was often caught out of position and also struggled when it came to contesting duels.
There were no surprises that manager Erik ten Hag decided to sign Mount this summer, but he is now sidelined until the international break.
The England star won’t be available for the games against Nottingham Forest and Arsenal, and Eriksen should get the chance to prove himself.
Eriksen has not always been strong defensively, but the 31-year-old is gifted with creativity and has the opportunity to make goal contributions.
United will host Forest at Old Trafford this weekend. It is a winnable fixture on paper and Eriksen needs to impress to reclaim his spot against Arsenal.
Otherwise, Ten Hag could deploy Scott McTominay in the role. The Scot has shown that he can play in the creative midfield spot from recent internationals.
The club graduate has scored a stunning five goals from his previous four caps for his national team, and is more than capable of competing with Eriksen.
McTominay’s future has been speculated over recent months, but the midfielder is more likely to stay following the recent injury setback for Mount.
United have said that Mount won’t be available for two outings, but The Telegraph claim that he could be out for up to six weeks and could miss eight games.
