Christian Eriksen disappoints in Denmark’s goalless draw vs Serbia

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen had a difficult outing against Serbia in the Nations League on Monday night.

The Denmark international started on the right side of midfield. He struggled to dominate proceedings against Serbia on the road.

Eriksen had a passing accuracy of only 72 percent. He completed just two out of six long balls and one of six crosses attempted.

The 32-year-old lost possession on 17 occasions and was dribbled past thrice. The Dane was largely ineffective going forward.

His performance is unlikely to improve his starting prospects under new United manager Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese is set to operate with a 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 formation.

He prefers to work with midfielders who can high press opponents and have a tireless workrate. Manuel Ugarte is a perfect fit for him.

Bruno Fernandes should be an assured starter. Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount could compete with Casemiro for the other midfield position after returning from injuries.

Eriksen does not possess the same kind of mobility as the above quintet. He could find himself restricted to cameo roles going forward.

The midfielder has made seven goal contributions for the Red Devils this season, but none of those have come in the Premier League.

His current contract expires at the end of June next year and no renewal talks are planned. He is ‘expected‘ to leave the club.

United resume their Premier League season after the international break against Ipswich Town away.

Amorim took charge of his first training session on Monday. We could see some surprise selections for his first game at Portman Road.
