BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton has made his prediction for the upcoming Premier League clash between Manchester United and Brentford at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have had a horrendous start to the top-flight campaign, picking up only eight points from the opening seven league games.
They are winless in the last three matches and Saturday’s fixture against the Bees is a must-win, considering they are six points behind the top four.
Sutton has backed the Red Devils to come on top with a 2-1 victory despite the Bees’ early scoring streak.
He said: “Logic tells me that, while Brentford are yet to pick up an away point so far, they are the better team, and have been the better team all season.
“We also know the Bees still love an early goal, so they will probably take the lead again.
“But I just have a gut feeling that United will edge this one again, somehow. I can’t really tell you why, other than they have to.
“Also because Statman Dave said this would be 2-1 to Manchester United, so I am taking his advice. Hopefully he is better with his predictions than he is with his stats.”
United picked up a 2-1 win over Brentford at Old Trafford last season, but they were fortunate. The Bees looked on course for a victory before two stoppage-time goals from Scott McTominay off the bench.
The Red Devils no longer have their super-sub in their squad and will need to step up to the occasion. Thomas Frank’s side won’t be easy opponents, but United must pick up maximum points.
United manager Erik ten Hag continues to receive the backing from the hierarchy despite the poor start. The next seven games could be critical to keeping his job beyond the November international break.
Ten Hag has a huge selection headache on his hands tomorrow. With Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount injured and Manuel Ugarte doubtful, he could pick Casemiro to partner Christian Eriksen in midfield.
