Chicharito: The Javier Hernandez story

This is a story written by Charles Samuel about the first ever Mexican to play for Manchester United. Javier Hernandez…..CHICHARITO.

The story chronicles the life-so-far of one of football’s fastest growing talents. It explains how Chicharito hails from a footballing family background and how his physique led to coaches doubting his ability to make it in the big wide world of professional football, even his Dad (an ex-player) is quoted as saying “I never thought he would actually make it as a professional….”

Not only did Chicharito make a professional name for himself in Mexico with Chivas, he also burst onto the international scene with an impressive World cup debut that highlighted to the world why Manchester United had just discreetly paid Chivas an undisclosed fee for his services.

Samuel explains in detail how United tracked his progress after first spotting his talent whilst playing for Mexico’s Under 17s way back in 2004.

“I got goose bumps when I realised I would be joining Manchester United” Javier admits, he even lied to his beloved Grandfather about his whereabouts when his first meeting with Sir Alex Ferguson was taking place in Manchester, such was the need for both club and player to have their privacy.

Chicharito talks candidly about his short time at United and how he surprised even himself with his immediate impact at the club whilst describing United’s training centre as perfect.

The soon to be released book is a beautifully illustrated hardback with quotes from his family, his team mates and his current manager Sir Alex Ferguson who says “He is completely different. You can’t compare him to anybody else. What has impressed me most about him, and is something I have noticed from the first day I met him, is that he is a very simple person.”

Wayne Rooney says of his team mate “He’s just taken everything in his stride. He’s a lovely lad, who’s always smiling around the dressing room” and Gary Neville admits “He’s one of the most exciting young players I’ve seen at the club for a long time.”

With recent personal success at all levels of his game with Chivas, Manchester United and his beloved home country of Mexico, Chicharito looks forward to his future saying “My Targets? To improve, keep learning and to enjoy myself”.
