Chelsea transfer decision could pave way for Man Utd to sign Trevoh Chalobah

Manchester United could sign Trevoh Chalobah this summer with Chelsea on the verge of securing the free transfer of Tosin Adarabioyo.

The Red Devils are aiming to bolster their central defensive department with Raphael Varane set to leave when his contract expires on June 30.

Jonny Evans could also walk away on a free transfer next month while there is uncertainty over Harry Maguire’s future at the club.

The hierarchy would ideally want two central defensive signings and we won’t be surprised if United do business with Chelsea again.

The Blues need to balance their books before June 30 and The Times claim that they need to generate over £100 million from player sales.

The club are currently on the cusp of signing Adarabioyo for free and his arrival could open the door for Chalobah’s switch to Old Trafford.

The west London side currently value him at £25m. United are said to be interested and should grab the opportunity to secure his signature.

Chalobah would be a quality cost-effective signing

The Englishman was sidelined with a thigh injury at the start of last season and had to wait until February this year for his first game of the campaign.

However, the 24-year-old was impressive for the Blues in the run-in. The club were unbeaten in his 10 starts in the league, keeping two clean sheets.

Chalobah completed 52 passes per game with a 90 per cent success rate. He won 65 per cent of his ground duels with 3.8 clearances and 3.5 recoveries per outing.

In our view, the centre-back would be a valuable cost-effective buy. At 24, he is just entering the prime of his career and has plenty of room to develop.

Rio Ferdinand once called Chalobah ‘unbelievable‘ and he would be a good acquisition, considering he has already proved his credentials in the league.
