Chelsea retain an interest in signing Man Utd winger Alejandro Garnacho irrespective of Xavi Simons pursuit

Chelsea have aspirations to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho despite advancing with talks for RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons, according to The Telegraph.

The Blues are keen on securing the services of Simons from Leipzig. Personal terms have already been sorted with the Dutchman, and an opening bid could be made for his services.

This may not necessarily end their long-standing interest in Garnacho.

It is claimed that Garnacho could compete with Jamie Gittens for a left-wing role, should Christopher Nkunku follow Joao Felix through the exit door in the coming weeks.

Simons can play on either wing or in the number 10 position. His versatility on the pitch could open the door for Garnacho to move to Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes.

Garnacho looks almost certain to leave Man Utd

The Argentine had a good 2024/25 season with the Red Devils. He registered 21 goal contributions from 58 appearances across all competitions.

Despite this, his future is uncertain due to a fallout with manager Ruben Amorim. Garnacho was only a late substitute in the Europa League final loss.

The United graduate was subsequently dropped from the matchday squad for the final Premier League game of the campaign against Aston Villa.

Garnacho has reportedly been told to find a new club by Amorim, and the 21-year-old seems determined to join a Premier League rival this summer.

The Blues have been monitoring his situation since the start of the year. His representative was spotted watching a league game at Stamford Bridge in January.

Hence, we won’t be surprised if the Blues intensify their pursuit of Garnacho once they secure a transfer agreement to bring Simons from Leipzig.

United valued their prized asset at £70 million last winter, but the price tag has been significantly lowered to £40m to facilitate a summer transfer.

The Red Devils will be hoping to secure a quick deal for the Argentine’s exit so that they can ramp up their pursuit of Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko has a preference to join United over Newcastle this summer, but the Red Devils need to recoup funds to compete financially to sign him.
