Manchester United were left stunned by Chelsea after losing in a seven-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
Erik ten Hag made three changes to the United side that drew 1-1 against Brentford on Saturday.
Harry Maguire, Antony and Casemiro replaced Victor Lindelof, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay.
Four goals were scored in a frantic first 45 minutes. Chelsea went 2-0 up inside 20 minutes but goals by Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes restored parity before the break.
Another Garnacho goal in the second had gave United the upper hand but they failed to hold on.
The Stamford Bridge roof went off after the Blues scored two goals in the 10th and 11th minute of injury time to steal all three points.
Here are our three talking points from the game.
A pulsating affair
Chelsea and United provided great entertainment to the neutrals. It was more of a basketball match, with each team relying heavily on counter-attacks.
This fixture has been a drab affair in recent years, but tonight was different.
Conor Gallagher guided it home early to settle some early nerves for the hosts. Cole Palmer doubled the lead from the spot after Antony was deemed guilty of committing a foul in the box.
Garnacho brought United back into the game before Fernandes’ headed goal gave voice to the travelling fans.
Antony’s sumptuous assist to Garnacho completed United’s comeback but the drama didn’t end there.
Diogo Dalot made a horrible error in the 10th minute of added time, which gifted Chelsea their second penalty of the night. Palmer put the ball past Onana.
He completed his hat-trick just one minute later as his deflected shot left Onana with no opportunity to make a save.
Antony and Garnacho shine bright in an epic showdown
The Brazilian winger worked hard to keep the ball in play, leading to Garnacho’s first goal. He played a vital role by switching the play for Fernandes’ strike.
He turned into prime Ricardo Quaresma as his outside-of-boot pass put the goal on the plate for the Argentine winger.
Many people raised their eyebrows when he was named in the starting XI but he turned out to be United’s best player.
Garnacho never gave up and kept taking on Malo Gusto. He was quick to react and intercept a poor pass from Moises Caicedo.
The youngster showed great composure to run with the ball and put it past the goalkeeper.
He thoroughly deserved his brace tonight but would be disappointed to end up on the losing side.
This was his 30th consecutive start for the Red Devils in all competitions and this run must continue at least until the end of the season.
Shambolic Man United threw the points away
The clash showed where Chelsea and United stand in terms of stability and consistency.
Ten Hag’s future is already in doubt and tonight’s result won’t help his cause. A comeback 3-2 victory would have pushed United closer to the Champions League spots.
However, horrific defending and poor commitment at the death left the Red Devils without any points.
No United player was switched on when Chelsea took the short corner in the last minute of the game.
They looked comfortable in the second half, but flawed concentration cost them crucial points and possibly their hopes for Champions League football next season.
With Aston Villa and Tottenham dropping points, it was a golden opportunity for the Red Devils to close the gap.
However, this loss leaves them in the sixth spot, 11 points behind fourth-placed Villa with just eight games remaining.
