Casemiro hugely impressive in Man Utd’s frustrating 1-1 Premier League draw at Crystal Palace

Casemiro was hugely impressive for Manchester United during yesterday’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Brazilian has been a key player for the Red Devils since making his full league debut in October last year and produced another top display from the centre of the park.

The 30-year-old was not at his best with his distribution last night but defensively, he was up for the challenge and was quite often seen covering up for his defenders.

Over 90 minutes, the midfielder won a stunning 12 duels and eight tackles. He also made six clearances and three interceptions. He also provided two key passes for his teammates.

Despite his impressive display, some United fans will be disappointed with him for two reasons.

Casemiro had the chance to score a late winner with a simple tap-in, but the main criticism would be his needless booking in the 80th minute that rules him out of the Arsenal game.

The Brazilian’s absence versus the league leaders is a huge blow for United. Casemiro was only a late substitute in the 3-1 win over the Gunners at Old Trafford this campaign.

However, Mikel Arteta’s side were missing a key midfielder in Thomas Partey through injury. Hopefully, Ten Hag has a plan in place to outclass Arsenal in Casemiro’s absence.

Scott McTominay seems the natural replacement for Casemiro in the number six role, but we could also see Fred come into the XI if Erik ten Hag wants more defensive assurance.

United recently came into the title picture with a five-match winning run but yesterday’s draw was a setback. They are now eight points behind leaders Arsenal, who have a game in hand.

Sunday’s game is a must-win for the club if they want to keep their slim title hopes alive.
