Carrick era begins: Three academy stars pushing for dream Man United debuts vs Brighton

Manchester United will step onto the pitch for the final time this season later today.

The Red Devils are set to travel to the Amex Stadium for a Premier League showdown against Brighton & Hove Albion.

United head into the contest with very little pressure after already securing a third-place finish and successfully achieving their objective of returning to the UEFA Champions League.

Head coach Michael Carrick could now use the occasion as the perfect platform to hand several exciting academy stars a major opportunity.

Jim Thwaites

Jim Thwaites is regarded as one of the brightest young midfield prospects currently developing at Carrington.

The 18-year-old has regularly featured for the Under-21 side this season and has looked remarkably comfortable despite his young age.

Although he possesses a slight frame and stands at just 5ft 7in, time remains firmly on his side to continue improving physically.

With the ball at his feet, he is a magician.

Thwaites excels at playing line-breaking passes from deeper areas and consistently looks to progress attacks quickly.

He is press-resistant and could prove to be deadly from set-pieces.

He was recently included in the matchday squad by Carrick and could play an important role in the first-team setup next season.

Godwill Kukonki

Godwill Kukonki is already a familiar name among United supporters after making a hugely positive impression since the age of 16.

Kukonki, now 18, has spent the majority of this campaign operating in the left-back position.

Unlike Thwaites, the defender already appears physically ahead of many players within his age group.

His versatility is another major strength as he can operate comfortably both as a centre-back and a full-back.

Kukonki has also improved significantly in attacking situations this season and looks increasingly capable of contributing in the final third.

The youngster produced one of the standout moments of the youth campaign by scoring a crucial goal in the FA Youth Cup final for the young Red Devils.

Jack Moorhouse

Jack Moorhouse was recalled from his loan spell in January to provide additional midfield cover during an injury-hit period for the first team.

The young midfielder possesses an exceptional ability when carrying the ball forward from deeper areas of the pitch.

Despite his talent, Moorhouse remains a player with enormous room for growth and improvement.

The 20-year-old is not a traditional holding midfielder and looks far more suited to advanced number eight or number ten roles.

With INEOS expected to heavily revamp the midfield department this summer, Moorhouse will undoubtedly view pre-season as a golden opportunity to force his way into Carrick’s long-term plans.
