Burnley reach verbal agreement to sign Man Utd graduate

Manchester United are close to parting ways with another midfielder before the transfer deadline.

The Red Devils recently agreed a £25m deal with Napoli for midfielder Scott McTominay. The Scot is anticipated to join the Serie A giants in the next couple of days.

Fabrizio Romano now reports that Burnley have reached a verbal agreement to sign midfielder Hannibal Mejbri. He will join them on loan with a mandatory buy clause.

The Tunisia international is undergoing his medical today and it is only a matter of time before he completes his move to the Championship outfit.

He wrote on X: “Burnley have reached verbal agreement to sign Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United. Medical tests taking place today as club to club deal done on loan with mandatory buy clause. Almost there.”

Mejbri joined the Red Devils from Monaco in 2019 and made his senior debut in May 2021. However, he never established himself as a key member of the squad.

The 21-year-old made just 10 appearances during the first half of last season before he was loaned out to Sevilla in January with an option to purchase.

Mejbri failed to impress then-Sevilla manager Quique Sanchez Flores. He ended up making only six appearances for the struggling La Liga outfit.

The versatile midfielder now has the chance to prove himself with the Clarets in the second tier.

The youngster previously impressed for Birmingham City in the Championship. He has the opportunity to find form and confidence with guaranteed playing time.

The Red Devils could benefit from his move in future. The deal will include a hefty sell-on clause. The club are also likely to have the option of re-signing him.
