Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo had an impressive outing during the friendly against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.
The Red Devils played out a 1-1 draw against Les Parisiens at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, and Mbeumo was the stand-out performer.
PSG took an early second-minute lead, but United pulled level in the 32nd minute. Amad Diallo delivered a quality assist for Mbeumo’s goal.
The Cameroonian previously scored a brace in a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid, and carried over the form against the European champions.
He had four attempts on target in 64 minutes and was probably unlucky not to score the winner.
PSG shot-stopper Matvei Safonov was in superb form on the day with some outstanding saves.
United have two more friendlies against Leeds United and AC Milan prior to the Premier League opener at Hull City on August 22.
However, it appears quite clear that Mbeumo is the front-runner to lead the line at the MKM Stadium with Benjamin Sesko yet to train.
The Slovenian ace has been working individually after his shin injury in May, but he is touted to be fit in time for the new league campaign.
Still, the former RB Leipzig man is likely to be eased back into first-team action, and could be restricted to a bench role to build his match fitness.
Mbeumo played as a false number nine on many occasions for United last term. He was not the most convincing in the back end of last season.
The 27-year-old has fared much better as a number nine in pre-season, and looks poised to start upfront against Hull on the road on August 22.
Joshua Zirkzee has come off the bench in recent outings to replace Mbeumo, but his future remains uncertain with interest from Juventus.
