Bruno Fernandes turned down astronomical offer to join Al-Hilal in January

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes turned down an astronomical offer to join Saudi Arabia club Al-Hilal during the winter transfer window, according to Record (page 4).

The Portuguese playmaker has been a mainstay in the United XI since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in 2020. He has registered 71 goals and 60 assists from 213 games for the club.

His form has not been exemplary by his standards this term, but he continues to remain an undisputed starter from the number 10 position with no competition in the squad.

It is now reported by Record that Fernandes received an ‘astronomical offer’ from Al-Hilal, but he rejected the proposal. He wants to remain in the European elite and stay loyal to United.

The €70 million-rated star resisted the temptation from the Saudi Pro League leaders, but they plan to return for him in the summer with manager Jorge Jesus eyeing a reunion.

As things stand, Fernandes is determined to stay put at United, but Record claim that the situation could change if the Red Devils find themselves in a sea of uncertainty once more.

Fernandes remains an indispensable figure at United

The 29-year-old has been far from his peak form this season. He has still managed to contribute seven goals and six assists from 30 appearances in all competitions.

He has made the number 10 position his own with his stand-out performances over the past four years and United are unlikely to contemplate parting ways with him.

Fernandes is currently contracted to the club until the summer of 2026 with an option for another 12 months. The surprise story could be agent-driven to secure him a new deal.

The Portuguese is only the seventh highest earner at the club at €280,000-a-week and we won’t be surprised if there are fresh talks over a new improved contract soon.
