Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes delivered another top performance during the 3-3 Champions League draw against Galatasaray on the road.
The Red Devils went into the game with the ambition of picking up three points and they had the perfect start, going 2-0 up after just 18 minutes on the clock.
Fernandes delivered the assist for Rasmus Hojlund’s opener in the 11th minute and seven minutes later, he scored one of the best goals of the group stage.
The Portuguese unleashed a stunning curling strike from outside the box into the top left corner. Fernando Muslera had no chance of stopping the effort.
It seemed like they were on course for a comfortable win but the game finished 3-3 in the end. Andre Onana made two blunders to concede from two Hakim Ziyech freekicks.
Fernandes made the fouls leading to both set-pieces, but he was definitely not the one to blame.
The 29-year-old led by example with a quality attacking display. Aside from his two goal contributions, he had 60 touches and made three key passes alongside four long balls.
The United skipper also won five duels and three tackles, but it was not sufficient to deliver the much-needed win for the Red Devils at Rams Park last night.
United squandered a 2-0 advantage for not the first time this season. The result sees them bottom of their group with four points and facing potential exit from Europe.
Galatasaray and Copenhagen are one point ahead at the moment. United need to beat Bayern Munich in the final matchday and hope that the other game ends in a draw.
United must end Bayern’s sensational 39-game unbeaten streak in the group stage to have any chance of qualifying for the round of 16 stage of the Champions League.
