Bruno Fernandes shines for Portugal in 5-1 Nations League win vs Poland

Portugal registered a convincing 5-1 win over Poland in the Nations League on Friday night.

Roberto Martinez’s side had a difficult opening half at the Estadio do Dragao where they failed to register a single shot on target.

Rafael Leao eventually broke the deadlock in the 59th minute. It opened the floodgates with five more goals scored in the game.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes scored Portugal’s third goal with a sublime strike from the edge of the box.

Fernandes has been in fine form in recent weeks. He was brilliant for his country last night with seven long balls completed.

The 30-year-old had 83 touches with a passing accuracy of 89 percent. He delivered three crosses and created three chances.

The former Sporting CP star had a tough start to the campaign with United, but he has started to find form at the right time.

United have had a dismal league season with 15 points from 11 games, but they are only four points adrift of third-placed Chelsea.

Ruben Amorim has brought plenty of excitement after his appointment. A winning streak could put them back in the Champions League mix.

Fernandes is expected to be a key player in the manager’s 3-4-2-1 formation and Amorim will be delighted with the attacker’s form.

The Portuguese tactician likes to focus on intensity and quick transition of play. Fernandes is probably best suited for his current set-up.

United return to Premier League action after the international break against Ipswich Town on the road.

Amorim could take charge of training early next week, provided he is granted his working visa.
