Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has praised Jonny Evans as ‘Zidane’ following his superb defensive showing against Everton in the Premier League.
The centre-back has started the last two league games for the Red Devils. He was splendid in the Manchester derby where he won 100 per cent of his ground duels.
His substitution in the second half paved the way for Manchester City to find the winner.
Against the Toffees, the 36-year-old rolled back the years with another solid showing. He completed 88 per cent of his passes and showed exceptional control at the back.
He also made four clearances and blocked four shots on goal. In an Instagram post by Evans after the game, Fernandes was quick to praise him as Jonny ‘Zidane’ Evans.

Evans initially joined United’s pre-season training to work on his fitness, but the club were eventually convinced to hand him a short-term contract for the campaign.
The decision raised some eyebrows among the fans. The Northern Irishman has repaid the faith shown with a number of stand-out performances this season.
His current deal expires at the end of the June. We won’t be surprised if the hierarchy make the decision to keep him for another 12 months as a squad player.
United are bound to invest on a marquee central defender this summer, but Evans would be a handy option on the bench with his vast experience and leadership.
He is currently one of the lowest earners at around £65,000-a-week and keeping him at the club for another campaign won’t have any impact on the wage bill.
