Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes has signed a contract extension with Manchester United, with an official announcement to come from the club, according to L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi.
It was reported a few days ago that the ‘brilliant’ 29-year-old and the Old Trafford club had reached an agreement over a three-year extension, which includes the option to extend his stay by an additional 12 months, and it has now happened.
Fernandes has been one of the best players at Man United since joining the club and he has been rewarded with an improved and extended contract.
The Red Devils captain pledged his future to the club in May and will now spend more years with them after snubbing offers from elsewhere.
Fernandes felt undervalued at Man United and wanted to be among the highest earners alongside Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and Jadon Sancho. He has finally got his wish.
He was earning £220,000 a week on his last contract while Rashford pockets £365,000 a week, slightly more than Casemiro’s £350,000-per-week salary. Sancho is on around £300,000 a week.
Raphael Varane pocketed £340,000-a-week before leaving and Fernandes will now get what he deserves.
He joined Man United from Sporting CP in January 2020 and has gone on to bag 79 goals and 67 assists in 234 appearances, winning one FA Cup and one League Cup.
Fernandes wants to win the Premier League and Champions League with the Red Devils and will have been impressed with the signings they have made this summer.
