Manchester United duo Bruno Fernandes and Hannibal Mejbri have been nominated for the Premier League’s Goal of the Month award for September.
The Red Devils have had a frustrating start to the campaign and they are currently on just nine points after seven games into the top-flight season.
Despite this, there have been some positives to carry forward. Mejbri’s emergence has been one of those.
The club graduate scored a stunning goal from outside the box against Brighton. It was only in a losing cause but he caught the eye of manager Erik ten Hag.
The 20-year-old has since started three games for the Red Devils in all competitions including the midweek Champions League defeat to Galatasaray.
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes has had another fine start to the campaign and he has already registered three goal contributions in the Premier League.
Against Burnley last month, the Portuguese scored with a sublime right-footed volley after a precise long ball from Jonny Evans, who was a surprise starter.
That was the club’s last league win. United will be aiming to return to winning ways when they host Brentford in Saturday’s kick-off at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Mejbri and Fernandes are competing with six more candidates for the Goal of the Month award including Callum Hudson-Odoi and Miguel Almiron.
Both Hudson-Odoi and Almiron scored with sublime curling efforts from the edge of the box, but we believe Fernandes deserves the accolade after his strike.
With the high percentage of United fans across the world, one must fancy the captain to secure the award. Such goals are a rarity on the football pitch.
