Bruno Fernandes dazzles for Portugal in Nations League win vs Scotland

Portugal registered a dramatic late win over Scotland in the Nations League on Sunday night.

Roberto Martinez’s side trailed after just seven minutes at the Estadio da Luz after Scott McTominay scored with a brilliant header.

The visitors managed to hold onto the lead until half-time, but Bruno Fernandes eventually levelled the scores in the 54th minute.

The Manchester United captain netted with a fine long-range effort to beat goalkeeper Angus Gunn.

Portugal went on to secure the winner through Cristiano Ronaldo in the 88th minute after a wave of constant attacking pressure.

Fernandes was undoubtedly the man of the match with a fabulous all-round performance.

His 30th birthday was a memorable one with a crucial goal. Aside from his strike, he had 99 touches with a passing accuracy of 88%.

Fernandes also completed 100% of his long balls (4/4) and won 100% of his tackles (3/3).

He created six chances, won seven duels and made eight recoveries.

The United captain was exceptional on the night and he can hopefully continue the good form at club level in the coming weeks.

Fernandes registered an assist in the Community Shield this term, but he has failed to make any contribution in the Premier League.

United will be in league action at Southampton in Saturday’s early kick-off, and Fernandes will be eager to prove a point.

He has previously excelled against the Saints with three goals and three assists from seven meetings.
