Borussia Dortmund are weighing up a transfer offer worth €15 million for Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Mejbri spent last season on loan in the Championship with Birmingham City. He made 41 appearances, scoring one goal and registering five assists.
The report also claims that Erik ten Hag won’t hand opportunities to young players who do not meet his high standards.
Man United signed Mejbri in 2019 in a €10m deal from Monaco.
He has made three senior appearances for the Red Devils and signed a long-term contract with the club in March 2021.
Hannibal Mejbri must impress Ten Hag in pre-season
The 20-year-old is expected to be involved in United’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Ten Hag will monitor Mejbri’s performances closely to see if he has what it takes to break into the first team.
The youngster is one of the brightest talents at Old Trafford and a former winner of the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year award.
Mejbri has fine technical ability with the ball but is still a raw talent.
United are looking to strengthen their midfield in this transfer window. The futures of Fred and Scott McTominay are up in the air.
Mason Mount is strongly linked with a switch to Old Trafford, but United have yet to find an agreement over the fee with Chelsea.
Zidane Iqbal is another United academy player who has shown glimpses of brilliance. However, he is close to joining FC Utrecht on a permanent deal.
This shows that Ten Hag will only entertain youngsters with world-class potential.
