Bologna director confirms Man Utd target Joshua Zirkzee will definitely leave club due to release clause

Bologna technical director Giovanni Sartori has confirmed that Joshua Zirkzee will 99.9 percent leave the club due to the release clause in his contract.

The Dutchman had a good season with the Serie A outfit last term. He registered 12 goals and provided seven assists from 37 appearances in all competitions.

Zirkzee currently has a £34 million release clause valid until mid-August and speaking to Sky Sport Italy, Sartori has confirmed that he will definitely leave Bologna.

He said: “He has a clause, so he will 99 per cent leave.”

United have advantage in Zirkzee pursuit

The Red Devils are keen on landing a young striker with potential. Manager Erik ten Hag has urged the hierarchy to secure the services of Zirkzee from Bologna.

The Dutch tactician has already spoken with the 23-year-old and a final decision could be made over his future following his return from the European Championship.

United already have an agreement with his agent over the commission. The club also have no problem in triggering the £34 million release clause in his contract.

The former Bayern man has an apparent desire to join AC Milan, but a transfer appears unlikely, given they have refused to accept his agent’s £13m demands.

Hence, United seem in pole position to sign Zirkzee, who was described as a ‘powerful‘ striker by Bayern II manager Holger Seitz during his time at the German side.

Zirkzee would be a fine competitor to Rasmus Hojlund. He has gifted pace and dribbling skills on the counter-attack and also has the ability to create chances too.

He registered 11 big chances in Serie A last term which was the fourth highest. He is an all-round striker and should only get better with more experience and stability in his career.
