Big transfer setback for Man Utd with Cunha ‘set to sign’ new Wolves deal

Manchester United have suffered a major setback in the first week of the January transfer window.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Matheus Cunha is ‘set to sign’ a new deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Cunha and Wolves have verbally agreed on a new contract to extend his stay with an improved salary.

Man United have been heavily linked with a transfer move for the Brazilian star. However, it looks like they will have to look elsewhere now to bolster their attack.

Manager Ruben Amorim fields his team in a 3-4-2-1 formation. Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are traditional wingers and have struggled to impress the new boss.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have also been poor further forward.

Cunha would have been an excellent addition to United. He has thrived as a left number ten in a similar system.

He has been in ‘irresistible form‘, bagging ten goals and four assists in 19 league appearances this season.

Cunha scored directly from a corner against United last month. He also earned an assist for the second Wolves goal to ensure a big victory for his side.

Cunha would have brought creativity and high intensity to the Red Devils.

United are enduring a terrible season. They are languishing in 14th place in the Premier League.

They have to sign at least a couple of players in January. A creative number ten and a dynamic wing-back will be at the top of their priority list.
