Big boost for Man Utd in Victor Osimhen pursuit as Aurelio De Laurentiis lowers price tag

Manchester United have been handed a big boost in the pursuit of Victor Osimhen with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis lowering the price tag.

The Nigeria international had a fantastic 2022/23 season with the Naples outfit. He scored 31 goals and provided five assists from just 39 appearances.

He was crucial towards ending the club’s three-decade wait for the Scudetto, but could be on the move this summer amid interest from the Red Devils.

Osimhen has refused to rule out a summer exit, and Gazzetta dello Sport (page 16) claim that De Laurentiis won’t accept less than €120 million to sell.

It was previously reported that De Laurentiis won’t consider offers less than €150m, but the valuation has been lowered ahead of the next transfer window.

Gazzetta dello Sport claim that United are leading the race to sign Osimhen among the English clubs, but they could face competition from European rivals.

Bayern Munich, AS Monaco, Newcastle United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are mentioned.

United handed timely striker boost after Harry Kane setback

United boss Erik ten Hag has identified Harry Kane as his number one striker target, but the Englishman appears unlikely to join the club in the coming weeks.

Tottenham Hotspur have no plans to discuss his sale to a direct Premier League rival. Kane could run down the final year of his deal or move to Madrid.

Hence, the Red Devils may have to look at an alternative option. Osimhen was previously deemed expensive, but United’s stance could change with the latest update.

With De Laurentiis reducing the price by €30m, the Nigerian star is now valued at just over £100m. This should encourage the Red Devils to make a formal proposal.

However, they won’t be alone in the pursuit. Bayern, Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are all capable of paying the fee and United must move quickly to seal a deal.
