Manchester United have been handed a double boost with Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw back in training ahead of the FA Cup fourth round tie at Newport County.
Shaw was involved in the final training session in the lead-up to the Tottenham Hotspur clash, but he pulled out of the game as he was not fully match fit.
The left-back has now been spotted back in training alongside his teammates. Maguire was also present with the team, having previously been out with a groin problem.
It is highly likely that Shaw will be reinstated in the starting XI ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Wan-Bissaka started in an unfamiliar left-back role against Spurs. The 25-year-old is expected to make way for the Englishman to start for the first time since December 23.
Meanwhile, manager Erik ten Hag has a potential selection headache on his hands in central defence.
Lisandro Martinez should be back in the XI after recovering from a metatarsal surgery. He had a good 30-minute cameo versus Spurs and should feature from the off in South Wales.
Raphael Varane played the full 90 minutes in the 2-2 league draw, but his position remains debatable as Maguire was previously preferred over him in the right centre-back position.
Varane was a regular on the bench with Maguire getting the nod earlier this campaign. It will be interesting to see who the manager prefers to partner Martinez versus Newport.
Aside from Maguire and Shaw, Casemiro looks set to make his first appearance since November. He was an unused substitute last weekend after returning from a hamstring injury.
In our view, Kobbie Mainoo has been brilliant from the number six role in Casemiro’s absence.
The Red Devils graduate could be rested this weekend with a view to starting against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League which is obviously a more crucial game.
