RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko wants to join Manchester United ahead of Newcastle United, according to Norwegian pundit and former footballerJan Aage Fjortoft.
The Red Devils have the 6ft 5in star on their final wishlist alongside Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins, but Newcastle had appeared to be favourites to land him.
The Magpies are playing in the Champions League next season after finishing fifth in the Premier League last term, and a move to the St James’ Park club would have been more appealing to Sesko after Man United failed to qualify for any European competition.
However, it appears the 22-year-old would prefer a move to the Old Trafford club given their status as one of the biggest clubs on the planet and in history.
The update from the reliable Fjortoft does not necessarily guarantee that Sesko will certainly be joining Man United, but it is a very promising sign which could give head coach Ruben Amorim a huge advantage in the pursuit of the Slovenia international.
Arsenal were keen on the young hitman before settling for Viktor Gyokeres at the end of the day after they could not agree terms with Leipzig or his agent.
Sesko ended last season with 21 goals and six assists in 45 games across all competitions after notching 18 goals both in 2023-24 and 2022-23, and signing him could make a huge difference for the Red Devils.
He will be a long-term solution to their striking woes and also has the potential to have a huge resale value should they opt to cash in on him in the future.
They have spent £130m on Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha and are now hoping to add a new number 9 to their attack following underwhelming campaigns from Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
