Bayern sporting director insists club won’t sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo is not an option for them despite the imminent departure of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona.

Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United has been a constant topic of speculation this month following reports suggesting that he has asked to leave the club.

Bayern have been constantly linked with him ever since, but their hierarchy are quite clear that the 37-year-old is not on their radar to replace Lewandowski.

Speaking exclusively to Sport1 today, Salihamidzic said: “I have a lot of respect for Cristiano Ronaldo, his successes and his career. But once again: That was and is not a topic for us.”

Ronaldo looks on course to stay at Man Utd

Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, but there are very few clubs across Europe that can afford his weekly wages.

Chelsea and Bayern are among those, but neither seem interested. Hence, Ronaldo looks on course to stay which has been United’s stance over recent weeks.

The Portuguese star had a tremendous homecoming season last term with 24 goals and three assists, but United still finished only sixth in the league standings.

This has meant that they won’t be playing Champions League football. Ronaldo has been plying his trade in the European competition for 19 straight years.

A 20th successive campaign in the Champions League is unlikely with United, but as things stand, he looks set to begin the new campaign in the club’s colours.

United boss Erik ten Hag has clearly said that the £27 million-rated star is in the club’s plans for next season. Ronaldo could formally join training after the Australia tour.
