Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard is taking explosive steps with his social media activity as he looks to secure a move to Manchester United, according to BILD.
The Red Devils have expressed an interest in signing the France international from the Bundesliga holders, but they are currently far from finalising a transfer fee.
United are willing to pay €29 million for the versatile star, but Bayern want at least €45-50m for him after missing out on signing Kyle Walker as his replacement.
It is now reported by BILD that Pavard is trying to force his departure by signaling that he would like to move to Old Trafford before the transfer window closes.
The 27-year-old recently commented on Raphael Varane’s Instagram post following his winning goal versus Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.
The former Stuttgart star also liked several posts on the Red Devils’ Instagram account and BILD say that it is difficult to imagine that this was a mere coincidence.
Pavard has already reached a verbal agreement in principle to join United, but the club would have to significantly improve their opening transfer offer to sign him.
Pavard deal largely depends on Maguire’s exit
Earlier this month, the Red Devils reached a verbal agreement with West Ham United for the sale of Harry Maguire, but the transfer has reportedly collapsed today.
Maguire has been holding out for a pay-off of £7m (€8m) after a considerable increase in his wages following United’s qualification for the Champions League.
The club’s reluctance to meet his demands has contributed to the £30m (€35m) deal falling through.
In our opinion, Maguire could still leave before the transfer deadline if a compromise is reached. This could encourage United to sign Pavard from Bayern.
They are unlikely to meet Bayern’s asking price on the table, but could be willing to make an improved offer to persuade the German champions into selling him.
Pavard has less than 11 months left on his contract with Bayern. The Munich giants are more likely to sell before the deadline than losing him for free next year.
