Bayern Munich name asking price for Robert Lewandowski amid Man Utd links

Bayern Munich have slapped a substantial price tag on Robert Lewandowski going into the summer transfer window, per Sky Germany.

Despite being 32, the German press label the Polish striker as a ‘wanted man,’ with Manchester United among several prominent European clubs interested in acquiring his services this summer.

Heavily linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena over the past couple of years, the former Borussia Dortmund marksman has established himself as one of the deadliest strikers in Europe.

After dragging his team to the Champions League title last season, Lewandowski has carried his predatory form in 2020/21, tallying a staggering 36 goals in 26 Bundesliga outings.

Although Bayern failed to replicate last season’s feat in Europe’s top competition, the Poland captain has been nothing short of exceptional, scoring practically at will.

Per Sky Germany, Lewandowski’s agent has received an offer for his client from an unnamed club, and the perennial Bundesliga champions are bracing themselves for his exit.

Bayern will reportedly ask for £69 million to green-light their standout performer’s departure at the end of the season.

United’s interest in the Polish goal-machine first emerged in 2012, when Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm at Old Trafford.

Lewandowski was ready to leave the Westfalenstadion after losing to Bayern in the Champions League final, with Ferguson making contact to try and bring him to the Premier League.

However, Dortmund refused to sell their star, and United went for Robin Van Persie instead.

Lewandowski has recently confessed that he had a conversation with the ex-United boss over a possible move to the Theatre of Dreams.

“After my second year in Dortmund, I had a conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson,” he told France Football, as quoted by the Daily Express.

“He wanted me to come to Manchester. I was very interested. I can even say I was ready.

“But Dortmund did not want to let me go. It did not upset me more than that because things were going well with Borussia.”

United rekindled their interest in Lewandowski in 2015 when Louis van Gaal was in charge but once again failed to complete the transfer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now looking to land a prolific striker to replace underperforming Anthony Martial and may try to finish what Ferguson started nine years ago.
