Barcelona defender Jean Clair Todibo is on the move again. According to Get football news France, Todibo has decided to leave Barcelona after a meeting with the club officials.
The defender was told he would not be a part of manager Ronald Koeman’s plans this season.
Todibo joined Barcelona from the French side, Toulouse, in the summer of 2018. He was loaned out in the next winter to German side Schalke in a deal which included an option to buy.
Schalke rejected the option to buy this summer.
Earlier on in this window, Barcelona were seeking €25m to allow him to depart, but are now willing to sell for less or even do a season-long loan arrangement.
This could be good news for Manchester United.
United need a centre-back to plug holes in their leaky defence.
Victor Lindelof is under criticism for a long time and club captain Harry Maguire needs a reliable partner. Eric Bailly looked decent against Luton Town midweek but his injury record is a concern.
United are also looking to sell defenders Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones. The club have been looking for a new center-back.
They lost the race to sign Gabriel to rivals Arsenal and are behind Man City for Kalidou Koulibaly.
English sides Everton, Wolves, Fulham, and Leicester City are all interested. It affirms of Todibo’s potential.
Our take
Todibo could become a decent defender but United need someone better and already proven. His inexperience in competitive European football is not the quality United are after.
Jean-Clair Todibo is valued at €14m by Transfermarkt.
