Newly appointed Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman’s time at the club has gotten off to an auspicious start. Lionel Messi’s decision to stay at Barcelona has sent waves of relief coursing through the Blaugrana faithful.
The manager’s vision for the club is slowly taking place. Some new faces are making their way in, some old hands are being asked to leave and some individuals are also being given a second chance.
The player to upset this delicate balance has been youth star Riqui Puig.
According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ronald Koeman has reportedly told Riqui Puig he’s not part of his plans for next season. The midfielder is free to look for a loan deal elsewhere.
This news is going to set off maelstroms throughout the footballing world. Puig has been coveted by many of the Premier League sides. Now, a move for him is possible.
Branded as the next ‘Iniesta’, Puig is a midfielder who expertizes in processing the ball. He is forward-thinking and has a good first touch, passing ability to compliment his style of play. The youngster also has excellent dribbling skills and a vision to die for.
Manchester United’s midfield is nearly complete following the arrival of Donny Van de Beek from Ajax. Bruno Fernandes has revitalized the midfield and is ably supported by Paul Pogba.
The cause for concern is squad depth. United midfielder Fred has still not taken to the Premier League and Nemanja Matic is getting old. Jesse Lingard has been out of favour since OGS took over, Andreas Pereira is expected to leave the club in search of regular first-team football. That leaves United with only 4 capable midfielders.
Scott McTominay is the only holding midfielder who has had an extended run in the side.
These are worrying prospects for United. The club’s last season was disrupted due to an injury crisis and no one knows if the situation would repeat itself.
A new addition in the midfield is not a priority for United at the moment. The club are hopeful of adding a left-back and a winger before the market closes. A fresh pair of feet can be good for United. That too on a loan deal.
Puig’s performances in his short stint at the Catalan club have earned rave reviews.
As per Transfermarkt, he is valued at £22m.
What better place for the youngster to continue his footballing journey than the world-famous Theatre of Dreams.
