Barcelona and Bayern Munich are interested in signing Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes this summer, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola.
The Portugal international has been an undisputed starter for the Red Devils over the past four years. He had a good 2023/24 season with 28 goal contributions.
Despite this, there is speculation over his future and A Bola claim that he could be on his way out of United.
Barca and Bayern have ‘developed contacts’ to find conditions for a transfer and may soon make formal offers.
Man Utd unlikely to contemplate Fernandes exit
The Red Devils could not spend during the January transfer window as they were close to breaching the Profitability and Sustainability limits.
There could be a limited £35 million budget this summer and player sales could be necessary for the club to secure their desired transfer targets.
Fernandes is one of the most valuable players in the Red Devils squad. The 29-year-old currently has a Transfermarkt value of almost £60 million.
Despite this, the club are unlikely to contemplate the prospect of losing him. He has been their best creative player and had a 8/10 display in the FA Cup final.
Fernandes has also committed his future to the club on multiple occasions. Hence, the speculation could be purely agent-driven for a new long-term deal.
The club captain has two years left on his contract with an option for another year, but it has been reported that he would like parity with Marcus Rashford who earns £300,000 per week.
His representative is probably trying to pressurise United with transfer links. We won’t be surprised if the Red Devils negotiate a new deal with Fernandes.
