‘Back to his best’: Some Manchester United fans react to 25-year-old’s display vs Southampton

A section of Manchester United fans on Twitter have heaped praise on the performance of Luke Shaw during the club’s stunning 9-0 triumph over Southampton in the Premier League last night.

The Red Devils were handed a man advantage after just two minutes after Saints midfielder Alex Jankewitz was sent off for a reckless tackle on Scott McTominay.

United needed to make the most the opportunity and they did so in superb fashion as they put nine goals past the south coast outfit which equalled their Premier League record, previously achieved against Ipswich Town in 1995.

There were a number of standout performers for the Red Devils, who had a two-man advantage for the final three minutes plus stoppage time after Jan Bednarek was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

Shaw excelled during the first-half as he provided two assists and managed five key passes. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a wise decision to substitute him at the interval, given his injury record in the past, but he still earned plenty of praise from fans.

Here are a few reactions on Twitter.

The 25-year-old has been hampered by injuries in the past, but he now appears to be finding the consistency with a regular run of games.

He has been defensively solid for most of the campaign and has been unfortunate to have not registered more than three league assists this term.

United are scheduled to host Everton this weekend. It remains to be seen whether Shaw can produce a similar display against 11 men.
