Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for Aston Villa star Jack Grealish all season.
The 24-year-old played a huge role in the Villans promotion from the Championship last season, turning his form around in the second half of the campaign in particular.
Grealish has continued that into the 2019-20 season, despite the West Midlands’ club’s relegation battle.
Dean Smith has used the playmaker down the left wing and in central midfield this season. He has been more effective down the left in terms of goals, but has been hugely influential in terms of bringing teammates into play and winning the game from the middle of the park.
Where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would see Grealish in the Manchester United side is unknown, but one would lean towards the middle of the park more than the left, as we have Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Daniel James out wide.
Manchester United have been linked to a number of players this season but one has to think that Jack Grealish is among our top targets.
Our Premier League rivals have now named their asking price as the Daily Mail report that Aston Villa will demand ‘at least’ £80 million for Jack Grealish this summer.
There is no mention whether this valuation would drop should Aston Villa be relegated. Prior to their restart at home to Sheffield United on Wednesday, they are in the bottom three on goal difference.
Grealish has scored seven goals and produced six assists in his 26 Premier League appearances so far this season. This is more impressive given how poor the side have been this season and scored just 34 goals in all. He is also the most fouled player in the division too.
It’s hard to believe that the midfielder is still yet to receive a call-up from Gareth Southgate for the England national team. The Birmingham-born player is actually eligible to represent the Republic of Ireland too but has previously turned down the offer.
Personally, I would love to see Jack Grealish in a Manchester United shirt. He’s very influential and would be an upgrade on both Paul Pogba and Fred in that role. Grealish brings an energy, a strong will to win the ball back, creativity and goals from his position.
An £80m price tag in today’s market isn’t huge and given the bargain we got Bruno Fernandes for in January means we could have a nice budget available to Ole this summer.
