Transfer Rumours

Aston Villa and Everton keen on Manchester United outcast

According to The Athletic, Aston Villa are keen on signing the Manchester United goalkeeper, Sergio Romero.

Manchester United are holding out an asking price of £8-10 million and are looking to sell him instead of loaning him out. Everton have also been interested in signing the 33-year old Argentine with an objective of providing some quality competition to Pickford in goal.

However, Everton won’t be willing to pay that amount for a second-choice goalkeeper and are instead more inclined towards a free transfer for the spot.

Villa want to boost their goalkeeping department after losing out on Pepe Reina due to the completion of his loan move. Romero will definitely keep both Tom Heaton and Orjan Nyland on their toes.

The 33-year-old currently earns £100,000 per week at Old Trafford, and that could be a stumbling block as far as a move to Villa Park goes. Aston Villa can’t afford to pay that much to the Argentine shot-stopper and that could certainly turn out to be a stumbling block in any potential moves out of Old Trafford.

Following the recent announcement that Dean Henderson has signed a new five-year deal with Manchester United and is set to stay with the club for the 2020/21 season and battle for the number one shirt with David de Gea, the future looks bleak for Sergio Romero.

He will hence definitely fancy his chances of being the first-choice keeper at Villa having kept 39 clean sheets in 61 games for the Red Devils.
