According to Italian Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, AS Roma are set to make a new offer for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.
Roma have had a few previous offers for the Englishman rejected earlier this summer. These were primarily due to the difference in fees between Roma and United.
This time though Roma are coming close to meeting United’s valuation of €20 million for the defender. They are confident of reaching an agreement and have added a new interesting proposal to the deal.
Roma are also asking for defender Timothy Fosu Mensah to be included in the negotiations on a loan deal.
Fosu-Mensah is a youth academy product of Manchester United. He also enjoys the confidence of OGS and his backroom staff.
Roma were earlier thought to be interested in Diogo Dalot but United are refusing to let him leave on a loan deal.
AS Roma’s pursuit of Smalling has spanned an entire summer transfer window. The Italian side have been interested in signing the center-back on a permanent transfer from the start.
Smalling spent the 2019-20 season on loan to AS Roma.
His performances for Roma had earned him the admiration of his team manager Paulo Fonseca and the Italian media alike.
This is a certainly interesting offer from AS Roma.
Though, it is still unclear whether United would bite and allow Timothy Fosu-Mensah to leave on anything less than a permanent deal so late in the transfer window.
