Arsenal star tells teammates he’s joining Man Utd

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil is in the final year of his contract at the Emirates and is yet to sign an extension beyond the end of this season.

The German international has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United and reuniting with Jose Mourinho in recent months.

Ozil has been stalling on contract offers since last summer with the Mirror reporting that the 2014 World Cup winner is demanding £350,000-a-week whilst Arsenal’s latest offer was only £275,000.

The 29-year-old plays the number 10 role but has been benched by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger in recent weeks.  Mesut Ozl has been inconsistent ever since he joined for a then club record £42.5 million deal from Real Madrid in 2013.

It was at the Spanish giants that Mourinho and Ozil worked together and it is believed that the Portuguese coach wants to bring the attacking midfielder to Old Trafford.

The Mirror are today reporting that Ozil has been telling his current teammates that he has made up his mind to join Manchester United on a free transfer next summer.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has predominately been our number 10 this season but remains inconsistent and has had a number of sloppy performances in recent weeks.  Whilst we do have Juan Mata who can also play this role, Mourinho prefers to play the Spaniard out on the right in our 4-2-3-1 formation.

Although Ozil has a reputation for hiding in big games there is no doubting that he has great technical ability and can be unplayable on his day.  Should he not renew his contract between now and next summer you can guarantee there will be a lot of interest in his services on a free transfer.

Mesut Ozil is not the only Arsenal star in the final year of his contract – Alexis Sanchez is in the same situation and has also been linked with a move to us.
