Argentina manager praises Alejandro Garnacho after assist vs Chile

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has heaped praise on Alejandro Garnacho following his assist against Chile in the World Cup qualifier last night.

The World Cup champions secured a convincing 3-0 win over Chile yesterday. United centre-back Lisandro Martinez made the starting XI and he was outstanding in the back three.

Garnacho, on the other hand, made a cameo off the bench. He still impressed with an assist for Paulo Dybala’s stoppage time goal. It was his first goal contribution for Argentina.

Speaking after the game, Scaloni said that Garnacho did everything well and he was very good.

He told reporters (via La Nacion): “Alejandro [Garnacho] came in and did everything well. (But) we need to take it slowly, calmly, like with the younger players.

“When we saw that the game was over and (the win) was heading towards our side (we subbed him on), and he did what he did, which was very good.”

The 20-year-old managed only 16 minutes against Chile, but was effective in the final third. Aside from his assist, he squandered a brilliant scoring chance.

Scaloni has said that he prefers a slow and steady approach with younger players and Garnacho could make another substitute appearance on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils graduate has registered one goal and one assist at club level this season and he will be aiming to carry the momentum.

United have a favourable game on paper at Southampton next week. The fans will expect them to return to winning ways on the back of two losses.
