Antoine Griezmann has personal weakness for Man Utd, possible transfer in January

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has a personal weakness for Manchester United, who are interested in signing him, according to Sport (page 20).

The Frenchman has been a long-term target for the Red Devils. They were keen on signing in the summer of 2017 before he penned a new deal with Atletico.

Six years later, there remains speculation linking him with the club. Sport claim that Chelsea and United are interested in Griezmann and are closely monitoring his contract situation.

The World Cup winner presently has a €25 million release clause in his deal and Atletico would be helpless if any interested club triggers the valuation in January.

Sport particularly mention that Griezmann has a ‘personal weakness’ for United, having previously admitted that he is a huge fan of club legend David Beckham.

Griezmann unlikely to join Man Utd this winter

The 32-year-old has been in scintillating form for Atletico this campaign. He has registered 12 goals and one assist from 16 appearances across all competitions.

His form has increased speculation that his buy-out clause could be triggered in January, but we don’t see United making a move for him in the next transfer window.

The club are looking for a new striker to reduce the burden on Rasmus Hojlund, but they could pursue another emerging star over an experienced campaigner.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe close to securing his minority stake at United, it seems unlikely that Griezmann will be pursued. He has reportedly questioned the purchase of Casemiro.

The British billionaire will take control of the footballing operations after his investment and he is bound to prefer players with room for improvement going forward.
