Paul Pogba might be missing out on the French squad for their opening UEFA Nations League games, but his Manchester United teammate Anthony Martial has been called up at the last moment for the first time since March 2018 owing to some COVID positive results in their original squad.
Martial is reportedly the replacement for Tanguy Ndombele who also tested positive for the virus similar to Pogba who was replaced by Eduardo Camavinga.
The marksman currently holds 18 caps for his country has been directly involved in 5 goals since. He started off in England as a promising player but was dropped from the national team soon after. His form went down along a straight plain as he struggled to cement a starting XI spot in the upcoming seasons.
Fully deserving of a call up now, Martial excelled as United’s number nine this past season. We can now expect Martial to fit comfortably as a centre-forward in Didier Deschamps 4-2-3-1 or down the left-wing as well.
