Manchester United forward Anthony Martial may have played his final game for the club.
The Red Devils are set to face Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium tomorrow.
United manager Erik ten Hag confirmed earlier this week that Martial could be available for the final game of the season.
However, according to journalist Samuel Luckhurst, Martial was absent from the United squad when they departed for London. He may not be part of the matchday squad.
The Red Devils signed the Frenchman in 2015 in a deal worth £57 million. He has bagged 90 goals and 55 assists in 317 appearances.
Martial has outstayed his welcome at Man United
It has been a long and frustrating nine seasons for Martial at United.
His journey has been full of ups and downs, but it will end on a hugely disappointing note.
He featured only 13 times in the Premier League this season, scoring once. He last played against Bournemouth on December 9 and will leave the club as a free agent.
The 28-year-old had a chance to impress Erik ten Hag last season. The United manager was particularly taken by Martial’s first touch and good close-control dribbling.
His solid finishing ability also made him a strong candidate for the striker position.
Despite being favoured by the Dutchman to lead United’s attack, Martial proved unreliable due to a series of injuries.
This campaign has been no different with the France international spending most of the time on the sidelines.
Even if he were fit for tomorrow’s clash, Martial would have been on the bench.
Martial’s story will mirror many other United players who failed to flourish despite the initial hype, emblematic of the club’s challenging decade.
