According to the Telegraph, Manchester United have had an offer rejected for Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa.
United inquired for Chiesa after failing to make inroads into their pursuit of top club target Jadon Sancho. Chiesa is thought of as an alternative for Sancho.
Fiorentina are naturally reluctant to part with their star player. But they are ready to come to the negotiating table if an offer close to £45m is made.
Italian champions Juventus are leading the race to sign the winger on a permanent deal.
This is another blow for Manchester United.
United’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho has dragged on for the whole summer transfer window. But, with the club refusing to meet Borussia Dortmund’s asking price of £108m, the transfer window going to close in a week, the Red Devils are being forced to look elsewhere.
The only viable solution to United’s winger problems is Watford wide-man Ismailla Sarr.
The Nigerian International impressed with his performances in the Premier League last season and is on the current shortlist with Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.
The Catalan giant’s refusal to let the winger leave on loan and Dembele’s insistence on staying at the Spanish club has led to another dead end for United.
The other wingers linked with United in this transfer window were Ivan Perisic, Kingsley Coman and Douglas Costa.
