Manchester United could enter the transfer market for a new goalkeeper this summer.
The Red Devils have had a poor Premier League campaign. The club are presently 14th in the table with 38 points after 32 games.
Andre Onana has been disappointing with unforced errors. Manager Ruben Amorim may consider replacing him for next season.
Altay Bayindir had a good FA Cup third round outing against Arsenal, but he was visibly poor against Newcastle United on Sunday.
The Turkish star made a high-profile error for the Magpies’ fourth goal. He had a passing accuracy of just 49 percent in the 4-1 defeat.
In our opinion, the club should pursue a new shot-stopper. Espanyol’s Joan Garcia would be perfect for the number one role next term.
The Spaniard has developed into one of La Liga’s best goalkeepers this campaign. He has been brilliant for Espanyol since their promotion.
The 23-year-old has made 3.7 saves per league game with a success rate of 74 percent. In comparison, Onana has a save success rate of 68 percent.
Onana has a slightly better passing accuracy than Garcia (70 to 65 percent), but the latter has managed more accurate long balls (5.8 to 4.3).
Garcia has made almost 10 recoveries to Onana’s seven per outing.
He has also impressed with his ability to command the box with regular high claims which has not been one of Onana’s strengths at United.
Arsenal have a long-standing interest in Garcia, but United have also started making groundwork over a potential deal for the Spanish ace.
They have already sounded out interest and should trigger his relatively cheap release clause of £21.5 million during the next transfer window.
The Gunners are seemingly confident of striking a deal, having agreed personal terms last summer.
However, we believe United can persuade Garcia to join them instead of the Gunners with the assurance of a guaranteed starting role in the league.
