Amorim confirms massive blow for Man United, Zirkzee to miss Lyon clash

Manchester suffered a 4-1 hammering by Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Harvey Barnes bagged a brace while Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes scored one goal each.

Alejandro Garnacho gave a glimmer of hope to United when he brought the scores level, but the Magpies ran riot in the second half.

Joshua Zirkzee was unfortunately substituted in the 55th minute due to a hamstring injury.

United head coach Ruben Amorim confirmed that Zirkzee will miss the key Europa League encounter with Lyon on Thursday.

He said (via ManUtd.com): “We had to make rotation because we are trying to recover in two days from each game but trying to win this game also.

“Josh, I think he will be out for some games. So, let’s focus on the next one.”

Zirkzee nearly broke the deadlock early on with a sharp one-two involving Bruno Fernandes, only to be denied by Nick Pope’s outstretched arm.

He would have fired United ahead if his shot had been placed to either side of the goalkeeper.

After a slow start to life at Old Trafford, Zirkzee has transformed into a vital cog in United’s front line.

His silky link-up play and composure on the ball have made him a fan favorite in recent weeks.

He successfully completed both of his dribbles and played three passes in the final third.

United will host Lyon at Old Trafford in a Europa League clash on Thursday.

He would have definitely started but Amorim will be forced now to look at alternatives.
