Algeria confirm Riyad Mahrez is in transfer talks

Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez has been given permission to leave the Algerian national team squad to return to Europe amid transfer reports, the Algerian Football Federation has confirmed.

The 26-year-old expressed his desire to leave the Foxes as early as last summer and has since been linked to a number of clubs, including Manchester United.

Italian Serie A side AS Roma have had three bids already rejected for the Algerian international this summer, with the third being £31.5 million.

Over the past couple of days we have been linked with a new right forward, including Alexis Sanchez and Gareth Bale.  Mahrez’s name has also been mentioned.  This after Jose Mourinho announced he would like a fourth summer signing.

Mahrez was the PFA Player of the Year in 2016 after being a huge influence of Leicester’s shock Premier League title win that season.  However, his performances dropped last season after failing to get a transfer away from the club.  He has since started all three games this season, including Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Old Trafford.

The winger has been with the Algerian squad to prepare for their 2018 World Cup qualifiers with Zambia this week but the FAF have allowed him to formalise a transfer before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

A statement on www.faf.dz read:

“Leicester City’s Algerian international Riyad Mahrez, who is currently with the national team in Sidi Moussa to prepare for the double confrontation against Zambia for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, was authorised by the national coach Lucas Alcaraz and the Algerian Football Federation to make an express trip to Europe to formalise on Thursday his transfer to his new club.

“The national team will fly without him on Thursday morning to Lusaka to face Zambia on Saturday.”

Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard are currently our options out on the right wing whilst Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Rashford and Antonio Valencia are all capable of playing there as well.

We’ll bring you any more breaking news on Riyad Mahrez should any transfer deal involve Manchester United today.
