Alexis Sanchez set to join Man Utd on Monday

Manchester United will complete the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going in the opposite direction, subject to both players completing their medicals this weekend.

Sanchez is due to have his medical at Manchester United today whilst Mkhitaryan will have his medical down south over Sunday and Monday, the BBC have confirmed.

We reported during the week that Sanchez had agreed a four-and-a-half-year deal at Old Trafford, worth £27 million-a-year.

The swap deal has been held up as it has taken Henrikh Mkhitaryan a while to agree terms with the Gunners.  Now that the Armenian international has agreed to join Arsene Wenger’s side, the deal will go through subject to a medical.

Assuming both players complete their medicals without any problems then the deal can go through on Monday.  This would allow Sanchez to make his Manchester United debut at Yeovil Town in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday night.

Alexis Sanchez missed Arsenal’s 4-1 thrashing of Crystal Palace on Saturday, with boss Wenger confirming that the United-bound player had driven up north:

“He didn’t play because you cannot drive up north and play football at the same time.”

Manchester United could have done with a player like Alexis Sanchez yesterday during our 1-0 win at Burnley.  Juan Mata was very quiet down the right-hand side before he was substituted with 20 minutes to go.

We only had two efforts on target all game, with strike Romelu Lukaku setting up Anthony Martial’s winning goal from down the right wing before a fine finish.
