Alan Shearer takes shots at Man Utd wingers after damning stats show no service to Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund failed to break his Premier League duck against West Ham United yesterday.

The £72 million summer signing has featured 14 times in the English top flight but has yet to score a goal.

Alan Shearer pinpointed the main reason behind Man United’s goalscoring woes after their 2-0 defeat to the Hammers on Saturday.

He said on Match of the Day: “Antony into Hojlund – six passes in what, five games?

“All season, (Alejandro) Garnacho, five passes – that should be happening per game, never mind five or six games.

“There is something drastically wrong and they are never going to score goals until they improve on that.

Any striker would fail in this Man United setup

Hojlund has all the characteristics to be a top striker in the future.

However, football is a team sport, and his emergence will be hampered if the players around him do not support him.

Antony and Garnacho have played 926 minutes with Hojlund this season. The 20-year-old striker has received merely 11 passes in 10 games from his wingers.

No wonder Man United have failed to find the back of the net in the last four games.

If Harry Kane or Erling Braut Haaland were leading the line at Old Trafford, they would have also struggled to score.

Erik ten Hag must open his eyes and see this glaring problem. If the wingers and striker do not have chemistry, any attack would misfire.

This statistic also raises a big question about the training sessions the Dutchman and his coaching staff have conducted.

Marcus Rashford has assisted Hojlund twice in the Champions League.

Even though the England international has been completely out of form, Ten Hag must reinstate him in the starting XI.
