Agent: Dalot will play for a “great European club” next season

Diogo Dalot’s loan spell with AC Milan will conclude at the end of the season, and he will return to Manchester United.

With Dalot behind Aaron Wan-Bisaaka in the right-back pecking order last summer, the Red Devils allowed him to leave Old Trafford for a season-long loan to the Italian giants.

The Portuguese defender has done well at San Siro, featuring 25 times for the club in all competitions.

His agent Carlos Goncalves has claimed that Dalot will play for a “great European club”, no matter if it is United or Milan.

Goncalves told Calciomercato (via Goal): “Diogo has a contract with Manchester United until 30 June 2023. All decisions regarding his future will be made in due course.

“There is still a lot to be decided in the Italian league and Diogo is only focused on Milan’s immediate goals, which are to finish the 2020/2021 season in the best possible way, earning a spot in the Champions League.

“But whatever the future, whatever decision is made, it’s guaranteed that Diogo will continue to play in a great European club.

“In time we will have this conversation. There is still a lot to decide in Serie A.

“There is no need to speed up a process when all the parties involved have their attention on the matches that remain in the league, thinking about the best for Milan.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has highly benefited by adding competition to the left full-back spot.

Since the arrival of Alex Telles in the summer, Luke Shaw has been in sensational form. But this theory has not been used at the opposite flank.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is unchallenged in the right-back position. In terms of tackling and interceptions, he is arguably Europe’s best full-back.

However, he still needs to develop the attacking side of his game. This is where Diago Dalot can feature in Solskjaer’s plans.

The 22-year old full-back prefers to dart forward and link up with the attacking players.

He likes to dribble when in the opposition’s half and is not afraid of taking shots from distance.

Wan-Bissaka has featured in 47 games this season and has five goal involvements (two goals, three assists).

Dalot has the same number of goal involvements but in only 25 appearances.

He can be brought on to the pitch if United are in need of a goal and willing to compromise on defence solidarity.

Both players would be able to learn from each other, which will benefit the team in the longer run.

On that basis, United should refuse to sell the young Portuguese defender, even if Milan make a decent bid for him this summer.
